Wheeljack's lips are whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy, the rest of the head is passible ignoring that it's Wheeljack who got the unique treatment of being drastically different from his Bumblebee film counterpart compared to other returning characters but those lips are just ugly, imagine turning a guy with a faceplate who could easily save some budget on synching lines with lip movement into this film's big WTF face design.
Also it just stands out as inconsistent with the other character faces, literally compare him with Prime (even without his faceplate in the trailer), Bee, Arcee and Mirage and he looks drastically different aesthetic wise.
Regardless if the film and the character are good or not I will never not critique the design decisions regarding this, why did we need Steve Urkel as a robot? Hell why do we need to humanize any Transformer's face after a specific irl actor? That crap doesn't age well and it's uncreative stop doing it.
morganprime wrote:How hard is it to make a movie about transforming robots that fight each other? No one is here for humans and their problems.
I mean did you see the trailer and marketing for this movie? Humans are barely focused upon and there's only like 2 main humans in this film as well with no military at all in a major role.
That doesn't mean the movie isn't going to be Not-shit, more robot screentime has not nor will ever automatically mean it's a good film.
2007 was a better film than ROTF despite the latter having more robots and a bit more screentime for them.
What does "Transforming robots that fight each other" mean anyways? There needs to be context that makes it matter that isn't just the equivalent of watching video game fights on youtube, we've had enough mindless robot action a good film needs to for once focus on the Transformers as characters.

I have very little hope that this movie will be good.
The BB movie is my favorite.
Posted by First-Aid on April 25th, 2023 @ 3:14pm CDT
Movie 2007 introduced the AllSpark, widely regarded as the core of Primus.
ROTF introduced the Matrix and a way to regenerate the AllSpark.
DOTM introduced space bridge tech, allowing for rapid transit through the universe.
AoE introduced "transformium"- a way to rapidly regenerate Cybertronian alloys and the idea of someone hunting the Transformers off-world.
TLK brought Cybertron into Earth orbit and introduced the concept of the Quintessons/Quintessa, as well as introducing Unicron
BB introduced the Cybertronians to Earth.
ROTB seems like it is introducing Transwarp technology and the Terrorcons (what are their origins?).
If you look at those pieces, I can see the development of an endgame movie where each piece fits together, resulting in a regeneration of Cybertron and a subduing of Unicron without destroying Earth.
The questions is...will the movie peeps see it and use it?

Bumblebee looks like Bumblebee.
But Wheeljack. I just have to say, what the actual fuck? Sure, a good portion of the live action head designs have always been unconventional or "ugly", but his face? The worst of all worlds. How do we have Arcee and Mirage with coherent faces, and then end up with that? I was never a big fan of the head redesign, but seeing it up close, yikes. I don't care about the rest of his body, a van makes more sense as an alt-mode for a scientist/engineer than a race car anyway, but this will bother me forever.
All of this of course being a relatively small gripe about a movie I am very much looking forward to.

william-james88 wrote:People talk of Urkel but the glasses look more like Elton John's
They do but the character inspiration is quite clearly Urkel since it's both the glasses and seatbelt suspenders on a "nerdy" character which is probably where their going to take his character, play Wheeljack's engineering talents for a damn joke it's what I expect the character writing to be at this point considering the previous films with shallow personalities on most of the Transformers.
Then again the Wreckers in DOTM didn't really act like Rednecks the way their designs looked but then again they weren't major characters since AOE did treat Hound (A fat Marine/Soldier) and Drift (Samurai) as shallow personalities that conformed with the way they were designed.

Naaaaah, why the movies are so human-centric is because animating these models is hard and expensive.
HA, they could go full G1 Sunbow cartoon for the visuals for all I care if we could have a movie about ALIEN robots doing ALIEN robots things, with talented writers. Instead of getting some "lets celebrate -insert race-" or "fart jokes extravaganza" because of budget reasons and mostly, because of hiring talentless quacks as writers.
We will see how that movie will turn out and if it will "forget itself" halfway-through like so many movies does.

Fair enough. But then the story should still be about the Transformers themselves with humans as supporting characters instead of yet another alien invasion story.-Kanrabat- wrote:Rodimus Prime wrote:When the objective is one-sided human social commentary driven by a narrow-minded agenda instead of being faithful to the supposed source material, this is what you get.morganprime wrote:How hard is it to make a movie about transforming robots that fight each other? To be fair, they were more sec jokes than fart jokes. Not that I hate his look, I do enjoy the rest of his head design, just not a big fan of his speaker mouth.
I don't mind Wheeljack's look too much because it does still remind me of DotM's Wheeljack, a.k.a. Que.

God forbid some of us just don't like the design for it being disgusting and once again going for a lazy, uncreative stereotype head design rather than it not being G1, at least DOTM Que was less generic looking even if it was just Einstein's head.
If your gonna replace Wheeljack's bad ass head design almost nobody else had in the franchise at least make it a suitably bad ass replacement, not generic head with terrible lips, they could of at least made the glasses be cooler because that concept is neat in a vacuum.
I'm all for toxic fans getting pissed for stupid reasons (like the Star Wars fanbase with anything new) but this ain't it.

So realistically, you'd just like the same old look rehashed again and again.
Do you need a refresher course on how different from their G1 looks Ironhide, Ratchet and Jazz were in the first movie? What about Starscream and Megatron? Remember how radically different those designs have been?
These movies have done A LOT of reinterpreting a characters design, but by all means, fixate on a face.

I mean you should know by now from all the years I've posted here that I'm not opposed to different designs, you don't see me going on about Scourge or Battletrap being different from their original counterparts right? Hell I'm a relatively big defender of the films we had up to AOE including a majority of their designs, I just don't have the patience for gross designs.
I ain't no damn Geewunner I just hate this stupid face much like how Daytrader's face in TLK was just as much of an abomination, I want these designs to be actually cool.
Bayverse Ironhide is cooler than G1 Ironhide in many regards, Bayverse Ratchet is just an alternative take on the medic character neither particularly better or worse, I don't like 2007 Megatron for being an incoherent mess with spindly arms not for being different than G1 Megatron, and as for Starscream I only wish he became more colorful in the sequels instead of getting tattoos not even the G1 colors necessarily either just something to make him not grey colored like so many Decepticons ended up being.
Love how you brought up Jazz by the way who's unironically one of the most faithful to his original counterpart.

Same here, though I held off for 3 weeks on the Bee movie. But that will end with this film. Even though I had low hopes for TLK I still went to see it, and it was mediocre at best. The Bee movie I saw out of pure freak curiosity, and because I liked how the toys looked. But this film has shown me 0 intriguing aspects so far, from interviews with filmmakers to the toys. I was mildly interested in getting Scourge, but after a friend got it and I saw it in hand, I passed. So this film will be a no-go for me, but if you think it'll be worth your money and time, have fun. The Bee movie was quite enjoyable. It was a breath of fresh air after AoE and TlK. So I do have hope that this one will follow suit and deliver.

To me, it's incredibly fucking hilarious that people are getting so worked up over this before they've even seen the movie. So I make light of it, I laugh at it. Is that so bad?
Deadput wrote:Easy to say when it's your point of view against everyone else right? It's not like I'm saying my opinion is superior it just so happens to be my subjective opinion
As is mine.
I like the look. It's different. You seem to be coming at me hard simply because my opinion is different to yours. You're entitled to your opinion, not going to begrudge that, but the way you're reacting is the same reaction I'm seeing on Facebook, the same reaction I'm seeing on Twitter, and I find it hilarious. And that's what you seem to be reacting to, not your opinion, but your reaction. I've seen this same shit since before the 2007 movie was released, rather than letting it piss me off, I make light of it.
And I have to wonder as to what the goal is of some people who are hating on poor ol Wheeljack's face. All this anger and negativity, for what exactly? I'm all for expressing opinions positive and negative, but some people (not saying you) seem to be having such a major reaction to a character who shares the same name as a character from a different iteration of Transformers.
And rather than dwelling on it, I laugh at it and have a little fun with it and then I move on.
Like now. Toodle pip!

Burn wrote:All this anger and negativity, for what exactly?
I mean fair enough for the rest of your comment and yeah if you like his design that's fine enough I'm not trying to convince anyone otherwise, just replying to this specifically while for me it's more annoyance in the "I'm tired of this crap" thinking rather than pure anger the reason for me at least to express my thoughts like this is basically:
What else can I do? There's nothing that can be done besides give a reaction which in this case I've done so in the form of a comment on this site, nothing else I can do besides wait for the movie and judge it as itself, while judging Wheeljack based on his character.
If the movie is good? I'll be happy, if Wheeljack is a great character I'll be happy with that too, I just don't like the face/head on him although I think his body design is otherwise great...besides maybe the suspenders but I think my annoyance on those is more so associated with the nerd-image they seem to be giving Wheeljack, I'm just worried he's going to be an unfunny character like the Twins in ROTF or something like that with his appearance being used to tell some jokes.
This is all ignoring those rumors from the leaks (which seem to be more and more true by the month) about the type of humor he has with Arcee...

Honestly though, after the disaster that was TLK I really couldn't care less about the live action franchise. BB was a nice diversion, but the way Hollywood has gone in the past few years I knew not to get my hopes up that they would actually improve upon that. I used to LOVE going to the movies, but pretty much since 2019, there has been very little to be excited about.
I mean my kids are old enough that they went to see Super Mario Bros with their own friends. They said it was great. I actually believe them in this instance, but I'm still in no hurry to see it. RotB may very well be the first TF film that I have access to, but choose not to see in the theater.
