Might get Dreadwing, only for the sake of getting Dreadwing in toy form. Y'know, since he never even made one appearance at any of my local retailers.
Ratchet... that orange sherbert and weapon just doesn't work on him. Great, now I want orange sherbert.
I notice that Grimwing is on the site's banner. Does that mean we're getting galleries of him and Ultra Magnus too?

As much as I don't want to defend that AWFUL retool, look at the drill...now paint most of it gold. They missed a prime chance at another Gurren Lagann homage with that one.

Instead, we get two Beast Wars Dinobot homages in one (regular Dinobot and Transmetal 2 Dinobot).RAcast wrote:Mindmaster wrote:Ratchet... that orange sherbert and weapon just doesn't work on him. Great, now I want orange sherbert.

The weapon (regular Beast Wars Dinobot) and the head (Beast Wars Dinobot II), if there's no one who gets it.
I noticed, just didn't feel like pointing out.
As I look at Ratchet more and more, this thought comes to me: you know what he really looks like to me?
Not sure why the first Ratchet mold doesn't remind me of Team Fortress 2's the Medic, but Beast Hunters does.

The homage could have been done REALLY well, it truly could have. But instead of making the character Dinobot/II, they tried to make it...RatchetBot one-and-a-half.

Not to mention the Beast Machines Silverbolt nods with Dreadwing. Here's hoping to some fun repaints later down the road.

Unfortunately no. I'm unable to do all of the homages and comparison pics while I'm behind on galleries right now. Now that I've got the latest Beast Hunters galleries all set, I'll move onto the latest Beast Hunters Cyberverse galleries next (most notably Abominus!) as well as finishing up TFP RID Dreadwing, Skyquake, Ultra Magnus, AM Ultra Magnus, Thundertron, Leo Prime, Cyberverse Ultra Magnus and Cyberverse Skyquake.
Plus I've got the Beast Wars Dinobots in my storage unit at the moment.

His character model would show the feet and the "wings" nod better than the poorly executed toy will. Anyone have a good character model of Beast Machines Silverbolt handy?
W-why would you do this to us? Cannot be unseeeeeeen!
Posted by Sabrblade on May 19th, 2013 @ 9:36pm CDT
Still don't quite see it, since Silverbolt's feet are tiny and his "wings" are more like little feathers.
Here's some fan art of a better pose.
Posted by Dr. Caelus on May 19th, 2013 @ 10:25pm CDT
Which kind of makes me wish we'd gotten a Waspinator/Thrust and Rhinox/Tankor homage too. It would have made for an interesting trio.
My wife pointed out something interesting about the prehistoric Predacons. I said that everyone was complaining because transforming for them mostly consisted of them just standing up-right. She essentially said, 'So? That's what our ancestors did.'

One complaint, though. I dislike how simple the transformations have become in some of the Beast Hunters line. We don't need movie-verse/alternators. But, I'd like to have a cool looking F35 that doesn't have the feet and arms so visible. I can understand and accept such stuff in the Cyberverse molds. But, can we have some clever transformations that don't look like a robot hanging under a set of wings? Soundwave and the First Editions were some of the best recently, in my opinion.
Posted by MGrotusque on May 19th, 2013 @ 11:57pm CDT
I said before and i'll say it again. I really do think for me that Ratchet has the best bot mode in the entire line.
However i did see the Takara Shockwave at my local nerd store today and he looks pretty rad too.....but i still feel ratchet is the classiest of em all. Even in the beast armour. Which oddly enough isn't at all beast themed (accept for the dinobot homage gun and colour scheme). His armour looks more tech than the rest and not as goofy.

Oh k ...
They both have clawed feet and a unique "wing" design that is very similar. It's as much a nod as any of the other stretches people are making to connect these to Beast Wars figures. I'm just saying that with a different head, that Dreadwing could make a decent Beast Machines Silverbolt for BotCon, or the Club or something.

Ratchet... Don't like the colors on him. And why the Dinobot homage on this guy? Any specific reason?
And I still like Skystalker's simplicity. Reminds me of Energon Cruellock.

Because they probably wanted to throw us Beast Wars fans a bone.
It kind of worked...
NO! I do not want that thing!

Ultra Magnus makes brilliant use of the Transformers Prime Robots in Disguise Voyager Optimus Prime mold with extensive retooling, new colors, and accessories, which include the Forge of Solus Prime. This retool works especially well since so many fans use the First Edition Voyager Optimus Prime in their displays.
Grimwing is the latest addition to the Predacon ranks. According to the Transformers panel at Toy Fair earlier this year Grimwing is an Ursagrpyh, rather than a generic dragon. He comes with Blackbeak, a semi sentient weapon/drone.

I've been trying to recall what they told us during the panel. I know they said it was a cross between a bear and some other animal, a falcon maybe?

Never fear, mythical creature expert is here!
An ursagryph is the fusion of a bear and a falcon, similar to hair a gryphon is a fusion of a lion and an eagle.

Upon Google searching "ursagryph", "ursagriff", etc., articles relating to this toy are the most ubiquitous results.
Sounds like something Hasbro just made up.

Again, he's half bear, half eagle, half lion? Please tell me Hasbro wasn't cereal with that.

Incidentally, the Hippogriff (which is similar to the "ursagryph") doesn't appear to be a true 'classical' mythological critter, either, rather it seems to have been created in the middle of the Renaissance (i.e. several centuries, if not millenia, after the griffon and other classic beasts were 'born').

It may very well homage MOTU. It wouldn't be the first MOTU nod in the line (See: Bulkhead-at-arms)

Loving how he's a Ursagryph. Wish he had a Bear's Head instead of a "Falcon" head. But that's the Alaska in me. I like Bears.
We need more Bearformers.
Bears.

Amen to that.
A true "ursagryph" should have some elements of a bear. If it's got wings, then it should have a bear head. If it has other bear features, the other features should compliment the bird it is suppose to represent. Fuzors pulled this off really well. While I love Grimwing, it fails at being an "ursagryph" to me with it lacking any actual bear features in my opinion.

There is enough new parts on Magnus that makes him feel like a new character rather than a remold of an existing one. The winged jetpack is pretty cool looking. I wonder if it'll fit on the RID Prime and make that figure look more like the new Beast Hunters version. Do we have an estimated retail date yet for the new voyagers? I have a feeling it will be pretty soon and I wouldn't be surprised if I see them on shelves by mid June.
I agree. The RID Prime is a pretty sweet mold! I'm not too keen on the robot design (kibble windshields on his chest???), but the ALT mode is solid!
As much as I like seeing it used for Magnus like this, would it be too much to ask for a trailer??? Optimus seems half-finished without his trailer... I'd much rather have a trailer to interchange between Magnus and Optimus.
You think June release? With how poorly these Voyagers seem to sell, I worry about stores missing entire waves. I was holding my breath for the Voyager Shockwave for a while, and even now, it's hard to really tell he's hit stores around here!

DAAAAAAAAAAAA Bears.
Anyways, I think it's because of online pricing, shipping, all that stuff. Same reason I don't order much.

1) Optimus has only used a trailer once, in MECH's debut episode.
2) Ultra Magnus will probably go the same route and pull a very Ultra Magnus-y trailer only once in the series.
Why make a trailer when it doesn't even appear in fiction more than once, compared to the daily happenings with Generation One Optimus Prime?

As for making toys of one-time things, Takara's TF: Prime toyline had toys for Cylas and Nemesis Prime, both one-episode guys. And both Hasbro and Takara made a Terrorcon Cliffjumper toy, as well as toys for pre-zombie Skyquake, who both also only appeared once. And Hasbro's Beast Wars 10th Anniversary line had parts for a Transmutate figure. And the Animated toyline had toys for one-timers Waspinator, Blackout, Electrostatic Soundwave, Laserbeak, Ratbat, Wingblade Optimus Prime, etc. And all Movie toylines have toys for characters who only lasted for just one of the three films. And then there's G1 Skids who was only in two episodes of the cartoon. And G1 Runabout, who also only appeared once in the show. And so on and so forth.
