Thanks to a scan of the upcoming issue of Lee's Toy Review it seems that there will be a new line of repaints of the
Transformers Movie toys to be released in the near future.
The line will be called the "Premium Series" and figures already released in the line contain Robovision Prime, and Voyager Ratchet and Megatron figures.
New figures will include:
- Deluxe Barricade, Jazz and Concept Bumblebee
- Voyager Deep Space Starscream (Target exclusive), Ironhide, and Blackout
- Leaders Optimus Prime and Megatron.
All figures in the new Premium line will have additional paint applications and details, with some also gaining new metallic finishes.
Leader Optimus Prime has been confirmed to come with a sword, and both Leader Class figures appear to have new head sculpts as well.
As yet no release date's prices or "store exclusive" information has been released, but stay tuned to Seibertron.com for more information as it comes.

So it seems we now know why the Animated line has been pushed back so far, Hasbro wants to milk the Movie line for all it is worth.
I will be skipping the majority, if not all of this line for two reasons, firstly one version of most of the movie toys is more than enough and secondly to discourage Hasbro from making better versions after releasing inferior quality versions of the exact same products for 6-9 months beforehand.

*signed* I've decided to just repaint what I need to.
Well, maybe just Jazz. And Bumblebee.
Might want tha Prime head and sword too.
Ahghhh.. must stand my ground.

yeah right, i'll end my rant here. will get stumped again by the others who'll hit us again with Hasbro-this, Hasbro-that mumbo-jumbo and say we're whining again.
i give up on the movie line. just not worth going the extra mile, only to have something much better replace the old ones. that is, until i can get my grubby hands on some of the Autobots...

That's how Hasbro gets you!

Defintiely getting Starscream and Blackout (if they do his paint right this time). Just painted my Leader Megs tonight and customized him (better than this looks) and I see nothing really better about Barricade, Ironhide, Jazz, or Prime.

Indeed, I have to see these in person before I decide to buy. I see no difference with Barricade, Jazz, and Ironhide.
The thought of buying Leader Prime and Megs again makes me gag, but they so desperately needed the metallic finish (and I'm too damn untalented to do it myself). Prime seems to have a different head mold, and it looks funny from that shot...again, I'll need close-ups to make a final judgment.

Then they give us these which are an improvement on what they offered before, but typical fanbitch, I still don't like it.
I guess I'm bored of the Movie-formers at this point in time, even though there's still a few good ones that have yet to show up over here. Besides there's no guarantee that these will show up here either, so I guess I'll stick with what I have. Bring on the animated figures already.

I wonder when it's coming out in Hong Kong too?

We aren't playing this game.
This isn't Star Wars.
No.
Posted by Lord T on December 3rd, 2007 @ 12:59am CST
But otherwise he looks great. Pity these will never see a UK release.
Posted by Jazzz on December 3rd, 2007 @ 1:06am CST
My Prime is already shiny. though He coulduse some shine in his bumper. But repainting it with silver is way cheaper.
Maybe Bumblebbe but I like the stealth version more.
damn you Hasbro and your repaints.
Posted by Jazzz on December 3rd, 2007 @ 1:20am CST
I'll get reprolabels for Barricade.
Starscream is a yes.
Finally a silver Jazz.
Finally movie accurate Megatron
And Prime just has yellow soldiers and a new head.
...and a sword. dammit.
I'll have to try selling my leader classes to my friends.
darn I'm gonna have to get a new yellow Bumblebee anyways. his shoulders fell off.
good thing Animated won't come out till June.
Posted by Jazzz on December 3rd, 2007 @ 1:24am CST
must buy all
I REALLY REALLY HATE HASBRO.
Classics 2.0 will be coming out this year too, huh.
and animated.

That's the point many are trying to make, isn't it? That Hasbro is repainting and milking the franchise for more money. They aren't going to be doing anythign new.
It's ironic really. The only people supporting their efforts will mainly be adult collector's with money. I find it hard to believe parents are going to pay for another of essentialy the same toy just because of a different paint job, or if many kids would care.

Stormrider wrote:I think it's time for the South Park creators to write a story about the ridiculous amount of repaints that Hasbro spits out for the movie line.
QFT.
and i'm guessing Matt Moylan's gonna spoof this one too.
can't we ever ever get Hasbro to recall OUR original toys and replace them with these? :P
Posted by Collector Maximus on December 3rd, 2007 @ 1:48am CST
Anyway as I said before I do not plan on spending another 200 plus dollars on the same movie figures with different paint apps, although I think these look better than the originals. I wish they would have been painted this way in the first place.
Oh well, whatcha gonna do?

Megs is the only one worth replacing. I will simply take my old megs to walmart and demand store credit.

I hope it comes out soon. I'm not sure if these Premium figures are even going overseas.
Posted by Softimus Prime on December 3rd, 2007 @ 3:27am CST
jazz, prime, and megatron are all stark improvements but ironhide and starscream just dont pull off the splendor needed to make anyone pay an extra $20. i imagine blackout will be very close to the Japanese exclusive and bumblebee will have some silver and yellow paint.
i am glad that hasbro is at least willing to admit the paint apps on movie toys were lacking even if its in the most moneygrubbing way possible. i hope this line leads to better paint on future lines.

Barricade has the 911 on him now.
he's probably shinier too.
but a few stickers from reprolabels on the normal release and he'll look even better than this repaint

WAit... new heads for Leadres, does that mean we're getting a Prime with a mouth?
Posted by rob_charb on December 3rd, 2007 @ 4:38am CST
It is kinda cool that Prime comes with the sword instead of the blaster though. And it looks as though the antenna on his head are taller. Better than the tiny Adam West Batman-esque antenna the original Leader Prime got. Still, not enough to make worth my while picking up another.
And I love how Hasbro claims the premium line with added paint apps was officially launched with RoboVision Prime as I'm pretty sure my RV Prime is missing a fair bit of paint apps on the chest area!!

Now, I'm happy but I still feel like I spent needlessly, especially when this is how they always should have been released.. the fact that Hasbro released these toys with cheapass paint applications and molded in gre, coupled with the apparent QC issues, just boggles the mind.. but I digress...
I'm a Transformer the Movie fan, and with that comes the heart ache and wallet aches that are associated with that title..and so.. I will buy these repaints.. there are some cool factors that will make me happy, even if I'm grudgingly forking over cash while doing it..
Item 1:
New More accurate Head sculpts!
Item 2:
Metallic silvery paint and molding on the Leader class toys!!
Item 3:
Prime's Sword in place of that gun that he never used in the movie..
Item 4:
Barricade's redeco, more accurate, and possibly a new head sculpt too, though I can't really tell at this point..
Item 5:
there will be certain treatments done to the windows, and other parts of the vehicles and robot modes, details that make them look more realistic..like they were represented in the movie..
Overall, I'm okay with the decision.. but my wallet is sighing..

apparently, (aside from the Megs and Prime part remolds) a few shiney metallic paint jobs here and there (that SHOULD have BEEN DONE in the first place) is Hasbro's GENIUS idea of "Premium".

yeah, but I'd rather they get done then never at all...

We as collectors have been offered a tantalizing, refreshing, swimming pool of goodness to dive head-first into. Details, added features, the promises of shininess...
Unfortunately the pool is shallow, someone is going to break their arm (or wallet), and in the end, a great deal is going to be spent on, let's face it, minor repaints.
What I do not get for the life of me, is how some of us collectors out there will argue against repaints for so long, that they literally shit themselves and stink up the place with something other than their opinion because they can't leave the keyboard long enough to stop complaining about the latest 'Wave 6, Revision #2484723' Case, which is incidentally, all repaints.
But, here! Make them shiny and it's a whole bloody other story.
I love repaints. Let's be clear.
Look at my collection (go ahead, it's a fun thing to do), I am probably one of the worst offenders out there because I love variations; hence I buy every odd repaint I can. Be warned though fellow Trans-fans...you're about to start the game that Star Wars fans enter every single year. You think buying an 8th Han Solo (this time with goop on his boots, otherwise known as the "This is no asteroid sweetheart!" Han variant is tough at $4.99? Try doing it over and over at $20 or $40.
In one regard though, Hasbro is giving folks the detail and paint jobs they would want as collectors. Perhaps though, a heads-up was in order for this one?
And why not? Does anyone think the TF movie line would have suffered without some collectors waiting for the premium line to come out? I don't think so.
Just a thought before the rampant feeding frenzy of purchasing commences...add up what you've spent on the movie line so far. Will it be worth the trouble to hunt these down again? Is it worth the cost to repurchase them?
Lastly, I am not against repaints or even any of these particular repaints. What I take issue with is the idea that we could start seeing truly minor variations sold off as "Premium" lines in the future and without a real heads-up from Hasbro, many of us aren't going to wait around to buy the later line, or are going to indefinitely hold out for "premium" toys which may or may not come. Hasbro just need not bite the hand that feeds it here.

Would people have went with the cheaper one because essential your getting th same toy
Or would they have plumped for the more expensve one with the better deco.
I know the answr most people on the board would give but the average consumer - those who liked the movie, parents buying for kids and collectors allike i wonder how the results wuld have endd up if people were given the choice initially

I suspect there's demand left over from the big shortage of the first run of the toys, so although this takes repainting to degrees that would usually would deserve the snide comments, I'm OK with what amounts to a modified re-release. Megatron should've had a better release to begin with, but otherwise, no biggie. They're marketing to the folks who almost would've bought one the first time around, but didn't. People who would buy both are probably in the minority of the market.
